Hometown Seeds!!!

seed sample pack!

Alright. I hadn't been planning on doing any traditional advertising on my blog because it is more of a personal space to me than a money-making endeavor. Also, one of the things that irks me the most on a personal blog is flashy moving things in the sidebar or a ton of those generic ads that "guess" what is appropriate to put there based on the blog's content. I'm just not willing to run the risk of having ads for companies that I don't necessarily support or agree with popping up willy nilly just so I can maybe make a buck...

Having said my little piece there, I recently received an email from a small garden seed company based in Orem, UT wondering if I would be interested in swapping an ad spot for a variety pack of seeds. We talked back and forth a few times and I asked for some information about the company's history and was sent this small article written by one of the two owners:

[We] both have engineering backgrounds and have loved gardening in our spare time. When we developed a relationship with our supplier, we decided that between the three of us, we had the elements to make this work. Our supplier has over 25 years of experience growing, researching, and testing different seed varieties. We rely heavily on his expertise. When combined with our love of gardening and good challenge, it worked!

Our vision is pretty simple. We want to provide home gardeners the highest quality seed at a fair price. We will do this while maintaining a fun, high integrity workplace.

In the short term, we are looking at refining our product mix to suit a large majority of home gardeners. In the future we will grow into a resource where a novice gardener as well as a seasoned gardener can come for seed, supplies, information, and community socializing.

We have been able to involve our families in the business which have been great! We have our older children packing seeds and the smaller ones help clean up (and sometimes make messes) and do all sorts of odd jobs. Our wives have stepped in and become part of the team too.

Another unexpected pleasure was the opportunity to meet gardeners from so many diverse backgrounds. I have met people who live off grid to those who garden on their urban apartment roof top. That’s a lot of fun!

The company is Hometown Seeds and they are the nicest people, with a lovely variety of seeds from flowers to edibles and I encourage you to check them out!

And of course I have pictures of all the beautiful seeds I received, complete with a sweet, hand-written thank you note. :)

That's nice that you asked them a few questions...I just looked at their website and said, OK. ;D And, I'm sooo glad you did this beautiful write-up with gorgeous photos because now I don't have to. I'll just write "got my seeds; check them out at Amber's blog"...haha!

That is so cute and very nice of them! So envious (in a good way)-- if only I can install a large planter outside my fire escape! I mean, i can, but the strong winds may knock it down into the parking lot below... not good. :)
