Fall Shearing at Juniper Moon Farm

the barn

I returned Sunday evening from one of the most amazing trips I have ever taken. Juniper Moon Farm was hosting its annual Fall Shearing celebration, and I was fortunate enough to not only go down for the shearing festivities, but my friend Susan (who owns this beautiful farm) opened her home to me so that I could spend the entire weekend there.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the weekend, and there are many, many more in the Flickr set here.

Not only did I come home with a million pictures and the memories that go with them, I also got some goodies. :)

Some I bought, like this wonderful mug by Anna Branner:

Anna makes the cutest mugs

Bees on the back!!!

And PERFECTLY holds one french press worth of coffee -- and even leaves room for milk!

PERFECT SIZE!

I also finally bought this yarn, which I have been coveting for Deco for quite some time now.

And as a bonus for buying things, you could grab some scrap yarn to put out for your bird friends' nesting efforts. I just loved the shades of green in this ball.

And would you believe that I won THREE raffle prizes???

This pattern book and these skeins of yarn,

a raffle prize that I won!

MORE yarn, in a project bag,

more raffle winnings!

which also came with this lavender heart sachet:

and a full set of the three Juniper Moon Farm pattern books which were written for their first yarn line.

pattern books won in raffle!

I also brought home some fresh goat's milk for some special soap I've been thinking of making for a while now.

JMF goat milk for soap making!

More on that when I actually get around to making it...

Perhaps the best thing though is the gift Susan found for me. My Ravelry name, "HowdyPandowdy," is based on some lyrics from a song I used to enjoy on satellite radio when we still had it at our old house. Well, some awesome print shop on Etsy just happened to use those same lines on this gorgeous letterpress print:

present from Susan!

As soon as I find the perfect frame for it, it will be hanging on my kitchen wall. For now, I propped it up on top of the white hutch in there so I can enjoy it in the meantime.

I don't know what else I can say to do this weekend justice. It was just what I needed in so many ways, and to meet these friends in "real life" was an absolute joy. So, so wonderful, and I only hope it can happen again some day.

I'm so glad you got to go!  It sounds like a wonderful place and a wonderful day.   I'd been watching the preps on the Juniper Moon blog and was wishing I lived closer.

You better hold on to that friend because she sounds pretty awesome and her farm is sooooooo pretty.   That mug.... I love so much.  I checked her etsy shop but she doesn't have that one on there.

She is amazing, as is her beautiful home.

If you are interested in the mugs with the Juniper Moon logo on them, you can find them in the JMF shop here.

Your photos are, as usual, like a soothing balm for my tired eyes and soul. But more importantly: I. COVET. THAT. SHEEP. BOOKEND. THINGY!!!

Very cool about the Pandowdy sign find!

Oh it looks like you had such a fun time. I can almost feel that autumn air and taste that honey!

Yikes! It all looks so lovely! The honey nearly make me choke, it's so beautiful, and your picture of the eggs is lovely. :) Fun, fun!

I'm glad I could ease your poor eyes' burden for a bit. ;) As far as I know, the sheep was just one of several figurines on display on the shelf. I don't think any of them were actually really helping to hold anything up. Sorry. :(

It was so very wonderful! I still can't really believe it happened! :)

Thanks Sherrie -- don't choke on the honey!!! ;)

Looks like a wonderful way to spend a weekend. I am going to have to see if they offer anything similar around these parts. Lucky you, winning three raffle prizes!!

This post made me sigh aloud several times. Everything is so beautiful! I can smell the air and the cider, and the wool! I trust the sheep are shorn with love. (^_^)

Your photos are an absolute joy. That handpainted lamby mug.... where can I get one for myself?? It is absolutely darling and I would like to buy one. The Pan Dowdy print made me giggle, you simply MUST frame this in actual pie-crust!!

All the best from bum-fork PA... ~M

It was really one of the most wonderful things I have ever attended. And those blankets were heaven! We put them to good use when the evening got very cold outside!

It was fantastic! I hope you can find something close by to wherever you hail from. Really perfect way to spend even just a day.

And I was feeling very lucky when I won those prizes! Perhaps it would have been smart to buy a lottery ticket afterward. Oh well... ;)

Meechie!!! It was everything it appears to be and yes, Emily the shearer is truly gifted at what she does. The sheep and goats know she cares, and they are just putty in her hands. One of my favorite things was seeing their little legs just flop over in relaxation as she held them. So sweet!

Lamby mug here! We can be mug buddies!!! :D
