The "new" loom has been used (finally)

edge in focus

Remember the loom I got all the way back in October, mentioned in this post?

Well, I finally used it.

yarn (3)

And the same person who traded the loom to me spins gorgeous yarns, so I thought, "What better way to christen the loom than with some of her beautiful handspun?"

all the pertinent info

These pictures do not do it justice, believe me. The scarf is absolutely beautiful in real life, and I have been wearing it constantly, even around the house.

love

Currently on the loom is a Christmas present scarf, and I have two more lined up after that. I am really, really, in love with weaving.

It is BEAUTIFUL Amber.  You are so talented.  How is the banjo playing coming along ?

I'm in love with weaving, too.    I love the coordinated motion of it.   All that exercise and a finished project to boot!

Is there anything you can't do and do beautifully?? Weaving is still a long-ways-off dream for me....but I really want to do it. Will have to find an inexpensive loom first. Yummy yarn!

Thanks Carrie! Weaving is amazing! I can't wait to try some of the "fancier" stuff at some point.

Thanks so much Vickie. The banjo playing is slow, slow, slow. I am still playing it, but I feel like I am not progressing at the moment. Lot of other things on my plate right now though, and I am sure it will pick up again some time soon. :)

I just absolutely adore everything about it.

Craigslist and ebay are always good places to start, or things often pop up on Ravelry for amazing prices... It is worth starting. Much higher instant-gratification factor than knitting, but just as enjoyable and meditative of a process. :)

Thank you! :)

Thanks Anne-Marie! I really do love it. :)

I felt pretty comfortable with it right away really. (Unlike the first time I tried to crochet. Or the second time. Or the third through fifth times...)

But keep in mind that I haven't done anything super intricate yet, only plaids and some other plaid-like experimentation. ;)

I never thought to look at Ravelry for a loom...is there a "classifieds" section? Guess I'll go check it out. I also thought about going to the store that Robin (above) works at and put out a notice that I'd like to find a used one. :)

We always have a list of used equipment for sale.   Stop by the store.

G and I both need lessons and then we'll see what we need/want to get! I'm excited about the prospect of adding another piece of giant equipment that we don't have room for to the house. ;D

I really need to poke around your blog more often. I didn't realize you'd done a post about this.  :) I'm so glad you enjoy my hand spun. You did make a beautiful scarf with it.
